How to enrol in a course
Find out how to enrol in a course online.
To start enrolling online, you simply choose classes for the course you want to enrol in and add them to your enrolment cart.
You can then see how they’ll fit into your timetable, make any necessary changes and quickly check for any other enrolment problems.
When you’re ready, you can finish enrolling in one or more courses that are in your cart—but you need to do this on or before the additions and deletions deadline date. See When to enrol.
Remember, you cannot enrol until you have:
- Applied for admission to a programme.
- Been offered a place in the programme.
- Accepted the offer.
You need the flash player to view this content. Please click here to download it.
- Sign into Student Services Online and click the Enrol button.
- Select the term (semester) you want.
-
Search for a course using:
- either My programme requirements, to browse courses for your programme
- or Class Search if you already know the course you need to enrol in.
- Select the course you want and click View all classes on the results table to see the classes offered for that course.
-
Before selecting a class click on its name to see more information, such as:
- the prerequisites you need and any restrictions that could prevent you enrolling in that class
- the course components (lecture, lab, tutorial, workshop)
- the campus it’s taught at
- how many points it contributes to your programme (degree, diploma, certificate)
- whether faculty permission is required before you can enrol in it.
Tips
- If there are more than three classes available, click View all classes on the search results table so you can see them all. The other option is to click the left and right arrows on the results table to see the classes four at a time.
- To help you avoid timetable clashes, the day and time of classes that are already in your timetable or enrolment cart are shown at the top of the search results page.
- Select the class you want.
- You’ll be shown a list of its related classes (such as tutorials, labs, or workshops) if there are any.
- Select a related class that will fit your timetable.
Tip
There’s a help link at the top of most pages in Student Services Online. Each link leads to helpful details about that page only.
Click to see your proposed timetable.
If you have more than one class on at the same time they’ll show in orange and you won’t be able to finish enrolling. There are normally several things you could try in order to fix this.
Here are some examples.
For classes that are still in your enrolment cart:
- Change a tutorial, lab or workshop by clicking the related lecture’s name and selecting a different tutorial, lab or workshop.
- Delete a class from your enrolment cart and add one that’s on at a better time.
For classes that you have already finished enrolling in:
- Change a tutorial, lab or workshop by selecting the ‘Edit’ tab. See How to change a tutorial, lab or workshop.
- Swap a course for one at a better time. See How to swap a course.
For help and advice:
- Visit your Faculty student centre.
Tip
If you can’t fix a timetable clash for a class that you need to enrol in at this time, you could apply for a concession so the faculty can consider whether to let you enrol in spite of the clash. See How to apply for a concession.
- Select one or more classes from your enrolment cart.
- Click validate.
- The results will either let you know that everything is OK or explain any problems that could prevent you enrolling in a class, such as prerequisites not met.
